DRAMA 10/11/12 COURSE OUTLINE

DESCRIPTION:
Drama 10-12 is designed to further expand, develop, and refine theatrical skills learned in previous classes with a focus on character development and script work. Students will be encouraged to use their imagination to overcome theatrical challenges and to think critically. Each class will be structured as a workshop session where students will use the creative process to develop dramatic works of art, and then present their work to the class for feedback with the intention to improve.
By the end of Drama 10-12 students should be able to:
Students will be evaluated on their willingness to take risks, self-discipline, audience etiquette, performances, attitude, and the ability to work with others. Various assessment strategies such as, teacher observations, self-assessment forms, peer-assessment forms, checklists, and rubrics will be used
By the end of Drama 10-12 students should be able to:
- Develop artistic abilities and technical skills required in theatre performance
- Examine the interrelated processes of acting, directing, and script development
- Understand the collaborative process involved in a theatre performance
- Develop critical-thinking skills as applied to the work of self and others
- Engage in the creative process (exploration, selection, combination, refinement, and reflection) to create theatre works
- Increase their level of sophistication, complexity, and independence as they explore a range of theatre expressions
- Use theatre performance to create meaning and express ideas and emotions
- Examine the various roles and purposes of theatre in society
- Analyse theatre works from a variety of historical and cultural contexts
- Explore career opportunities related to theatre performance and develop skills for pursuing those options.

In Drama students MUST wear COMFORTABLE CLOTHING and be ready to remove shoes in the theatre. Bring a binder, lined paper and a pen or pencil to class.
CLASSROOM EXPECATIONS:
- Punctuality – If late please enter the Theatre quietly. If absent, students must make up missed work.
- No Food or Beverages in the classroom/theatre/lighting/sound booth. Water is the only exception, bring a water bottle.
- Respect class instructional time, other students’ efforts and class equipment.
- Bring your positive attitude and support everyone to feel safe, and to be included.
- Respect the theatre and computer equipment- it is a shared resource that ALL Salish students have the privilege of use.

- ABSOLUTELY NO CELL PHONES OR PERSONAL MUSIC DEVICES when Instructional time is occurring. Cell phones should remain in backpacks unless otherwise directed.
- Listen attentively to instructions and announcements, to other students presenting and performances.
- Ask permission to leave the classroom.
- Work with everyone, not just your friends – be inclusive.
HOW TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
- Class time is not social time; focus on your assigned task.
- This course requires extensive group work. Your group should work together as a team. Everyone must contribute equally with no discouragement of someone’s ideas.
- Voices are to be kept to a reasonable volume. There is to be no shouting.
- Spend less time talking about what you are going to do, and more time doing!
